Smyth County Schools is now accepting registrations for Pre-K and Kindergarten for the upcoming 2025-2026 academic year. Children turning four years old on or before September 30, 2025 can register for Pre-Kindergarten and children turning five years old on or before September 30, 2025 for Kindergarten. Contact the local elementary school in your child's attendance area to register.

PowerSchool has announced it will offer credit monitoring and identity protection services to everyone whose data was downloaded in the December 2024 PowerSchool security breach. See the full story for details.

The Virginia Board of Education has recognized Marion Elementary School, Northwood High School, and Saltville Elementary School for high achievement and Rich Valley Elementary School for continued improvement. See the full story for details.

A Public Hearing, to gather input on the Smyth County Schools proposed budget for fiscal year 2026, will be held during the regularly scheduled School Board meeting on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 6:15 p.m. at the Smyth County Office Building in the 3rd floor boardroom, 121 Bagley Circle, Suite 300, Marion, VA.

Smyth County Schools will begin an automated school zone speed enforcement program to increase safety for students, parents, teachers and anyone else traveling through the school zones. Please see the attached release for additional information.
