Saltville Elementary School Receives National Honor

The U.S. Department of Education has selected Saltville Elementary School as a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School for excellence in narrowing the achievement gap between different student groups and the overall student body. Saltville Elementary was one of only eight Virginia schools to be honored.

“These schools demonstrate a strong commitment to the success of all students and should be recognized for their achievement,” said Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction Lisa Coons. “We congratulate the entire school staff, students, families, and communities, and look forward to sharing their great work and example to help raise up other schools’ performance.”

"I am very excited for this opportunity to celebrate the amazing work going on here at Saltville Elementary," said Saltville Elementary principal Mitzi Frye. "Our teachers, students, and staff give 110% every day. We are committed to creating an environment where every student can thrive!"

The Department of Education has released a video featuring U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona congratulating all of this year's Blue Ribbon Schools, along with images from each school. (The schools are in alphabetical order by state, so Saltville is near the end of the video.)
