How to Remove a Chromebook From SCSB Management
If you are a graduating senior who has received a surplus Chromebook from Smyth County Public Schools, please submit the serial number of that Chromebook using this form. The school system's IT Department reviews this list of Chromebooks once a week and deprovisions the Chromebooks of graduated students. Deprovisioning is the process of removing the Chromebook from SCSB remote management. Once that occurs, you will need to "wipe" your Chromebook in order to reset it to factory defaults and remove it from SCSB management. Here's how:
- Turn off the Chromebook.
- Press Esc+Refresh+Power. A yellow exclamation point (!) or "Please insert a recovery USB stick" is displayed.
- Press Ctrl+D to begin Developer mode, then press Enter.
- Press Space, then press Enter. The Chromebook deletes its local data, returning to its initial state. This can take approximately 40 minutes.
- When the transition completes, press the space bar, then press Enter to return to Verified mode.
Note: If you try to do this before your device is removed from SCSB remote management, Developer mode will be blocked.
